When the moving truck arrived to our condo, I actually teared up a bit. This is funny, if you know just how much I was ready to move. Of course, I cry at commercials with cute dogs, so that might not be saying much.
We bought the condo three years ago as a vacation home. It was such an exciting time, and the first step towards eventually moving to Mexico. We’d rent out the condo and travel as often as we could until both kids were off to college which was so long away. We never imagined three years later we would be selling our condo and planning to move to Mexico permanently.
When we accepted an offer on the condo, we didn’t even have it listed for sale. Our agent/friend/property manager claims he “accidentally” showed it, but none of us believe him. He knew our ultimate goal was to sell it to build a house, and he had the perfect buyer for it. Accepting that offer set off a completely unexpected chain of events, though, that led to us moving much sooner than we ever thought.
When we took the offer, we decided to buy a lot and hold it until we were ready to build. We would have three years to begin construction and five years to complete a home which coincided with our youngest daughter going to college. Perfect timing, we thought. Except, our youngest decided she wanted to move with us. It took all of about three minutes for us to agree to that plan. Move much sooner? Yes, please! The only thing that had been holding us back from moving to Playa was letting the kids finish school in our same district. From there plans began to unfold rapidly, and we were all really excited.
So when the moving truck arrived to move all of our furniture into storage for the next year and a half, I was surprised at how sad I was. We had made so many memories and that condo represented such a big step in our lives; I was sad to say goodbye to it. So long Casita de Smith. I know we are on to bigger and better, but I’m sure going to miss all the fun we had.
